Play-Based ABA Therapy
Our play-based ABA therapy uses natural interactions, shared interests, and everyday routines to support communication, independence, and emotional regulation. Rather than relying on drills or rigid teaching methods, we focus on meaningful engagement through play and connection. Skills are developed within real-life contexts so children can build confidence and apply what they learn across home, school, and community environments.
Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA)
Functional Behavioral Assessments help us understand the purpose or “why” behind challenging behaviors. Through observation, collaboration with caregivers, and evidence-based assessment tools, we identify environmental and emotional factors that may be impacting behavior. This information allows us to develop individualized, compassionate strategies that support skill-building while reducing frustration and promoting long-term success.

Behavioral Coaching for Preteens & Teens
Behavioral coaching for preteens and teens focuses on building independence, flexibility, executive functioning, and emotional regulation skills needed for everyday life. Support may include organization, self-advocacy, coping strategies, and navigating social or academic demands. Sessions are individualized and designed to promote autonomy while helping older learners manage real-world responsibilities with greater confidence.
Parent Coaching
Parent coaching provides collaborative support to help families feel more confident navigating everyday challenges. We work together to develop practical, evidence-based strategies that can be used at home to support communication, routines, emotional regulation, and independence. Our goal is to ensure therapy carries over into daily life in ways that feel manageable, respectful, and aligned with your family’s values.

Meet Alix Lancaster
Welcome to North Star Behavioral Consultants. My name is Alix Lancaster, and I am the founder and Clinical Director of North Star Behavioral Consultants. I created North Star to provide high-quality, compassionate therapeutic services to the Santa Fe community I grew up in and love so dearly.
With over nine years of experience supporting autistic and neurodivergent children and their families, my goal is to offer services that are practical, relationship-based, and individualized to each child and family. I believe therapy works best when it is collaborative, strengths-based, and rooted in respect for each child’s unique way of learning and communicating.
At North Star, our mission is to help children build meaningful skills while honoring their autonomy, dignity, and neurodiversity

What does BCBA-delivered therapy mean?
BCBA-delivered therapy means your child works directly with a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) — not only a technician. At North Star Behavior, the BCBA is hands-on in assessment, treatment planning, and direct teaching.
This allows for:
• Highly individualized programming
• Real-time clinical decision-making
• Faster adjustments based on data
• Consistent clinical oversight
• Care delivered by a master’s-level clinician with advanced training
Your child receives expert, boutique-level support rather than a high-volume therapy model.
Interested in expert-level, direct clinical care? Contact us to schedule a consultation.
Is therapy play-based?
Yes. Therapy is developmentally appropriate and play-based — especially for younger children.
We use play as the primary vehicle for teaching communication, social skills, flexibility, emotional regulation, and independence. Children learn best when they feel safe, engaged, and connected.
Play is purposeful. It is how meaningful learning happens.
If you’re looking for therapy that feels engaging and joyful for your child, contact us to schedule a consultation.
Do you work with older kids and teens?
Yes. We support children, adolescents, and teens.
For older clients, therapy may focus on:
• Social navigation and friendships
• Executive functioning
• Emotional regulation
• Independence and life skills
• School readiness and success
• Self-advocacy and identity development
Sessions are age-respectful, collaborative, and designed to feel supportive — not compliance-driven.

How many hours of therapy are required?

For young adults, services may include:
• Vocational readiness and workplace skills
• Executive functioning and organization
• Social communication in professional settings
• Interview preparation and job retention support
• Independence and life skills development
We also provide consultation for neurodivergent adults seeking support with goal-setting, regulation strategies, communication skills, and navigating life transitions.
Our approach is respectful, collaborative, and autonomy-centered.
If you or someone you know would benefit from individualized vocational or life-skills consulting, contact us to schedule a consultation.
How involved are parents in therapy?
Parent collaboration is a key part of our work. We provide coaching, strategies, and ongoing support so skills practiced in sessions can carry over into everyday routines in ways that feel manageable and realistic.
How do I know if this is the right fit for my child?
The consultation process helps us determine that together. We’ll talk through your child’s needs, your goals, and your family’s preferences to see if our approach aligns with what you’re looking for.
